Hypoglycemia (low blood glucose level) stimulates secretion of glucagon from alpha cells of the pancreatic islets. Glucagon stimulates glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis leading to a rise in the blood glucose levels to normal. When blood glucose levels are high (hyperglycemia), beta cells secrete insulin which lowers blood glucose level. Glucocorticoids stimulate gluconeogenesis. Insulin and glucagon are secreted by alpha and beta cells of pancreatic islets of Langerhans. Pancreatic acinar cells secreted digestive enzymes like trypsinogen, amylase, and lipase.
