Oocytes of amphibians have lampbrush chromosomes, which are diplotene bivalent chromosomes but not polytene chromosomes. Polytene chromosomes have several chromatids or chromonemata and they are present in the salivary gland cells of insects. It is a type of giant chromosome and it shows various types of banding patterns.
(1) Lampbrush chromosomes are seen in diplotene stage of meiosis of amphibian oocytes.
(2) Allosomes are heterosomes or sex chromosomes that are involved in sex determination.
(3) Sub-metacentric chromosome is a chromosome with centromere just beside the centre of chromosome. It has one short or petit arm or ‘p’ arm and a long ‘q’ arm. It attains ‘L’ shape in anaphase of cell division.
