Detailed Solution

Unmyelinated fibers do not have nodes of Ranvier. Nodes of Ranvier are small gaps in the myelin sheath that covers some nerve fibers. These nodes are present at regular intervals along the myelinated axons and play a crucial role in the rapid conduction of nerve impulses. In unmyelinated fibers, there is no insulating myelin sheath covering the entire length of the axon. Instead, the axon is surrounded by Schwann cells or oligodendrocytes, but they do not form a continuous sheath. Because there is no myelin sheath, there are no nodes of Ranvier in unmyelinated fibers. The absence of nodes of Ranvier in unmyelinated fibers is one of the factors contributing to the slower conduction speed of unmyelinated axons.
