• During the sexual intercourse, the sperm ejaculated enter the female reproductive system through the vagina, which is the muscular tube that connects the external genitalia to the uterus.
• After entering the vagina, sperm gets into the cervix, narrow part of the uterus. 
• Cervix contains a mucus plug that can be thicker or thinner depending on the woman's menstrual cycle. The mucus consistency can affect the ability of sperm to pass through.
• The isthmus is the narrow part of the fallopian tube, nearer to the uterus. After reaching the uterus, sperm must then travel through the fallopian tubes to meet the egg. 
• The ampulla is the wider part of the fallopian tube. Fertilisation typically takes place in the ampulla when a sperm cell successfully penetrates an egg cell (oocyte).
