Detailed Solution

Separate electorates were demanded by minorities who feel it would otherwise be difficult for them to get fair representation in government. Minorities that believe it would be difficult to obtain fair representation in government usually call for separate electorates. For instance, having a separate electorate for Muslims means they will hold different elections to select their leader. In many constituencies, candidates from a single party run for office. Elections of this nature are only open to members of a specific group. The Government of India Act of 1909 established a separate electorate for Muslims, while the Sikhs, Indian Christians, Anglo-Indians, and Europeans were included by the Government of India Act of 1919.
