Let's assume that the present ages of Shalin and Shalin’s mother are x years and y years.
According to the question,
y = 3x
After 5 years,
Shalin’s age = x + 5
Shalin’s mother age = y + 5

∴ \frac{y + 5}{x + 5} = \frac{5}{2}

2(y + 5) = 5(x + 5)
2y + 10 = 5x + 25
2(3x) + 10 = 5x + 25 (since, y = 3x)
6x – 5x = 15
x = 15
y = 3(15) = 45
Therefore, the present ages of Shalin and Shalin’s mother are 15 years and 45 years respectively
Hence, 1 is the correct option.
