Detailed Solution

The respective costs of 1 pencil and 1 pen are Rs x and Rs y.

Hrithik spent a total of Rs 47 to buy 6 pencils for Rs 6x and 7 pens for Rs 7y.

∴ 6x + 7y = 47

Abhishek spent a total of Rs 31 to buy 3 pencils for Rs 3x and 5 pens for Rs 5y.

∴ 3x + 5y = 31

Therefore, the required equations are 6x + 7y = 47 and 3x + 5y = 31.
