Sickle cell anemia is an example for mutations due to change in a single base pair substituted by another base pair. In sickle cell anemia, it is due to transversion mutation in which the base pair AT is changed to substitute as TA. Hence the codon GAG for glutamic acid is changed to GUG for Valine and the RBC attain the sickle shape from biconcave round shape.
