Siddhartha got enlightenment under a peepal tree at Bodhgaya in Bihar. Under a peepal tree near Uruvela, along the Niranjana River (modern name: Nirvana) in Bodhgaya, Bihar, he attained Nirvana. And after 49 days of nonstop meditation, he attained complete enlightenment (buddha or tathagata). He spent a lot of time meditating, seeking knowledge and truth and becoming enlightened. Alara Kalama, a Sankhya philosopher, was his first teacher, and Udraka Ramputra was his second.
