Detailed Solution

Silappadikaram and Manimekalai are two Tamil epics.
During this time, some highly acclaimed epics were written. Epics are great, long works about heroic men and women and stories about gods. A famous Tamil epic, the Silappadikaram, was written around 1800 years ago by a poet named Ilango. It tells the story of Kovalan, a merchant from Puhar who fell in love with a courtesan named Madhavi while neglecting his wife, Kannagi. Later, he and Kannagi left Puhar for Madurai, where he was falsely accused of theft by the Pandya king's court jeweller. Thus Kovalan was sentenced to death by the king. Kannagi, who still loved him, was enraged by this injustice and destroyed the entire city of Madurai.
