Silesian weavers revolted against the contractors.
A revolt in 1845 against the contractors by the Silesian weavers was organised as the contractors gave them raw materials and bought the finished textiles. The weavers were dissatisfied when they drastically reduced their payments and marched in pairs up to the mansion of their contractors on 4 June, demanding higher wages. The group got angrier when the contractors disagreed and barged into the contractors’ houses, smashing the elegant window panes, porcelain, etc. The contractor had to flee with his family to a neighbouring village, but the villagers refused to give shelter to the man as they were aware of the revolt. He returned after 24 hours but with the army; hence, 11 weavers were shot.
