Detailed Solution

Silk fibre is obtained from the cocoon of a silkworm.
Silk is a natural fibre that is obtained from silk moths. Sericulture is the rearing of silk moths to obtain silk. An adult female silk moth lays about 300-400 eggs. The larva that emerges when the eggs hatch feeds on the mulberry leaves. They secrete fine filaments made of protein from the two glands on their heads. They deposit these filaments around their body, known as a cocoon. The cocoon is placed in boiling water to loosen the filaments, and then the filaments are taken out of the cocoon, known as reeling. Several filaments are twisted together to form a strong thread.
