Silk routes existed before the Christian period and thrived until the 15th century. The silk routes are excellent instances of pre-modern commerce and cultural linkages between distant areas of the world, such as those connecting Asia to Europe and North Africa. The Silk route was used by Buddhist preachers, Christian missionaries, and Muslim preachers.
