Snow and glaciers in the world account for only about 2% of the water available on the Earth. However, they are the source of about 98% of the freshwater supply. The oceans cover 75% of the Earth but do not contribute to the freshwater since they have a high salt content. The melting of glaciers is the source of most rivers and freshwater bodies.
