Detailed Solution

Soldiers of the East India Company were known as sepoys.
Indian troops or soldiers known as sepoys were chosen from India's native population by European colonial powers. The sepoys were organised into battalions under the command of European officers and trained and equipped following European standards. Until 1885, the units were referred to as "native sepoys". The British started to create a consistent military culture in India from the beginning of the nineteenth century.
