x + y = 2 ...(i)
2x + 4y = 6 ...(ii)

Multiply equation (i) by 4,

4x + 4y = 8 ...(iii)

Subtracting (ii) from (iii), we get

2x = 2

⇒ x = 1

Substituting the value of x in equation (i) we obtain,

1 + y = 2

⇒ y = 1
