Here we try to make a perfect square by factorising the middle term.
By making the left term a perfect square we can easily get the value of the roots.
Add 4 both the sides.

⇒ p 2 − 12 p + 32 = 0 ⇒ p 2 − 2 × 6 p + 36 − 4 = 0 ⇒ p 2 − 2 × 6 p + 36 = 4 ⇒ (p − 6) 2 = 4 ⇒ p − 6 = ± 2

\Rightarrow p = + 2 + 6, p = - 2 + 6

\Rightarrow p = 8, p = 4

Thus, the values of p are 8 and 4.
