Given equations are, 

x+y=5……(i) 

2x-3y=4…….(ii) 

Multiplying (i) by 3 and (ii) by 1 we get, 

3x-3y=15 

2x-3y=4 

On subtracting these two equations we get, 

3x-3y-2x+3y=15-4 

Or, x=11.
