Detailed Solution

Some constituencies are reserved for people who belong to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The Constitution ensured that marginalised groups were represented in both the Parliament and state legislatures. A particular system of reserved constituencies for the weaker groups, as well as those belonging to scheduled castes (SC) and scheduled tribes, is used to achieve this (ST). There are 47 seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes and 84 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes in the Lok Sabha. Because they were concerned that certain weaker groups would not have a strong chance of winning elections to the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies in an open electoral competition, the Constitution's authors created reserved constituencies.
