Sri Lanka acquired its autonomy in 1948; it obtained a sequence of policies to inaugurate Sinhala superiority. The Sri Lankan administration established a majority standard to make Sinhala hegemony happen. In 1956, a law had enacted that made Sinhala the only authorised language. It meant that the Sinhala government omitted Tamil. Governments have made policies that furnished the interest of Sinhalas. The new Constitution says that the government must protect and promote Buddhism. Tamils thought that none of the major political parties led by Sinhala Buddhists cared about their language or culture. Because of this, tensions between the Sinhala and Tamil communities grew over time, and it didn't take long before a Civil War broke out.
Most of Sri Lanka's Sinhalese live in the north, centre, south, and west.
