Detailed Solution

Sri Lanka and Belgium show us the importance that the concept of power-sharing holds in countries of democratic nature.
The success and failure of democracy depend upon power sharing. In Belgium, the leaders realised the importance of recognising differences and diversities and accepting them. As a consequence, they amended their Constitution to accommodate all linguistic communities. It helped avoid political strife and the possible division of the small country along linguistic lines. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, saw its leaders encourage majoritarian policies that alienated the minority communities, which led to a massive uprising that led to violence and a disastrous civil war that destroyed the country’s peace and economic conditions. Thus, Sri Lanka and Belgium show the significance of power sharing in democratic countries.
