Detailed Solution

Sri Lanka emerged as an independent nation in 1948. The population of Sri Lanka is made up of a variety of social groupings, primarily Buddhists who speak Sinhala and native Sri Lankan Tamils and Indian Tamils (who immigrated during the British era) who speak Tamil. Sri Lanka is made up of Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists altogether. Sinhala speakers make up the majority of Buddhist adherents, whereas Tamil speakers make up the Hindus, Muslims, and some Christians.
