Boyle's Law

Boyle's Law states that the pressure of a fixed amount of gas is inversely proportional to its volume when the temperature is kept constant. In other words, as the volume of the gas decreases, the pressure increases, provided the temperature does not change.

Mathematical Expression:

 P ∝ 1/V or P * V = constant

where:

  • P = pressure of the gas
  • V = volume of the gas

Formula:

 P₁ * V₁ = P₂ * V₂

where:

  • P₁ and V₁ are the initial pressure and volume,
  • P₂ and V₂ are the final pressure and volume, respectively.

Charles's Law

Charles's Law states that the volume of a fixed amount of gas is directly proportional to its temperature (in Kelvin), provided the pressure remains constant. In simpler terms, as the temperature increases, the volume of the gas also increases, and vice versa.

Mathematical Expression:

 V ∝ T or V / T = constant

where:

  • V = volume of the gas
  • T = temperature (in Kelvin)

Formula:

 V₁ / T₁ = V₂ / T₂

where:

  • V₁ and T₁ are the initial volume and temperature (in Kelvin),
  • V₂ and T₂ are the final volume and temperature (in Kelvin), respectively.
