Santhali is one of the most important tribal languages of India. It is spoken in Indian states of Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Odisha, Tripura and West Bengal. It has over 6 Million native speakers and is also spoken among the tribal population of other countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. Including Santhali, there are 21 other tribal languages in India and 6 of them have a written script - Santali, Ho, Soura, Munda and Kui. Santhali language has also been included in the Eight schedule. Tribal languages contribute immensely to the linguistic diversity of India and thus they should be protected.
