Detailed Solution

The given statement is true.
Concept: Alkali metals are group 1 elements in the periodic table. They can be prepared from the electrolysis of their salts.
In the valence shell of alkali metals only one electron is present, that is, they only have one valence electron. This electron is easily ionized to complete the octet in the valence shell. Thus they are highly electropositive in nature and are strong reducing agents in nature. Reduction of alkali metals is difficult. So they can’t be prepared from the reduction of metal salts. Thus, by the electrolysis of alkali metal salts like metal chlorides, the ions are easily decomposed. And these metal ions get deposited at the cathode.
Consider the electrolysis of NaCl ;
At cathode: N a + + e Na
At anode: 2C l C l 2 +2 e
Thus, alkali metals can be prepared by electrolysis of fused chlorides and the given statement is true.
Hence, the correct answer is option 1.
