Given that, LM || CB and LN || CD, in the following figure.
Question Image We know Basic proportionality theorem (BPT), says that if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle that intersects the other two sides in distinct points, then the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.
In ΔABC  , LM || CB. So, by using BPT
AM MB = AL LC    -----[1]
We also know that LN||CD.
In ΔADC  , using BPT we get
AN ND = AL LC    -----[2]
From [1] and [2], we get
AM MB = AN ND  
On reciprocating both sides and then adding 1 to them, we get
MB AM +1= ND AN +1 AM+MB AM = AN+ND AN  
Now,
AM+MB=AB and AN+ND=AD
AM AB = AN AD  
The solution is the same as the given statement.
Hence, the statement is true.
Therefore, the correct option is 1.
