There are two major sources of carbon dioxide that introduce carbon dioxide into the air. These sources are-

  1. Respiration: Humans and animals breathe in oxygen gas and releases carbon dioxide which enters the air.
  2. Combustion: Fossil fuels burn to produce carbon dioxide.

The carbon dioxide produced after respiration is balanced in the atmosphere by the process of photosynthesis as plants absorb carbon dioxide from the air to prepare their own food.

The oxygen that is needed by humans is given out by plants and the carbon dioxide that is needed by plants is given out by humans  (animals). 

Therefore, it can be said that plants and animals are interdependent on each other.
