Detailed Solution

The given statement is true
Concept:
Friction is a type of contact force. It is produced when two bodies in touch slide against one other, i.e. when they are in relative motion. It exerts itself in such a way that it tries to prevent them from sliding between them. Frictional force is limited and cannot exceed a certain magnitude. This is demonstrated by the fact that if you gradually raise the force on an object from zero, it will move over the ground after a certain amount of time. This is due to the fact that the opposing force, friction, cannot increase beyond a certain point.
Friction has the following advantages:
1.) Friction stops a moving block- If the block is moving on the floor, the surface of the box in contact with the floor is moving while the floor is still at rest, causing friction to act and oppose the box until it comes to a halt.
2.) Asteroids burn in the atmosphere before reaching Earth- When asteroids approach Earth at high speeds, they must contend with a significant amount of friction caused by the air in the atmosphere. This friction generates a great deal of heat, which finally burns the asteroids out.
Friction has the following disadvantages: 1.) Friction reduces efficiency- Friction wastes a lot of energy in the form of heat. As a result, a significant amount of energy is wasted.
2.) Friction produces wear and tear in moving machine parts- In a machine, many parts are in contact with each other; as these parts push against each other, friction occurs, causing parts to be damaged.
Hence, the given statement is true
