Detailed Solution

Concept- The solar cell converts energy from one form to another; the process of energy conversion is known as the photovoltaic effect. Light energy is converted to electrical energy during the energy conversion process.
A photovoltaic cell is made up of two or more layers of semiconductors, with each layer containing both positively charged and negatively charged semiconductors. When a photovoltaic cell is exposed to sunlight, it emits little bundles of energy known as photons. These photons strike the photovoltaic cell, which subsequently reflects, transmits, or absorbs them.
When a photovoltaic cell absorbs photons through its negative layer, the energy of the photon is transferred to an electron in the cell's atom. When the energy of the atom in the negative plate grows, the electron begins to move and escapes to the atom's outer shell. The electron then migrates to the positive layer, resulting in a potential difference between the positive and negative plates. The positive and negative plates are then connected to an external circuit, and an electron passes through the circuit, causing current to flow.
1. The US government requires renewable energy sources, therefore they developed guidelines requiring electric utilities to generate a considerable portion of their power from renewable resources.
2. Communication satellites require an electric power source, but the source is lightweight, has a longer lifespan, and operates in space. Because solar energy is more concentrated in the satellite's atmosphere, photovoltaic cells are utilised in satellites.
So, Photovoltaic cells convert sunlight into electricity, uses in communication satellites.
Hence, option 1 is correct.
