Concept- Several forces can act on a body at the same time. Make a free body diagram and calculate the force on the object.
A force is a push or pull on an object caused by its interaction with another thing. However, the interaction does not have to be physical. Consider gravitational force. At any given time, a body can be subjected to several forces. Because force is a vector. All of the forces exerted on a body can be vectorially combined to determine the resultant force or net force the body feels. This value affects whether the forces are balanced or unbalanced.
Balanced forces: As the name implies, the net force acting on the body is zero. It basically means that the forces balance each other out. When there is no force on a body, its acceleration is also zero. This means that the body's velocity does not change or that the body maintains its state of motion.
For example, suppose a heavy box is on the floor and a person is unable to move it even with increasing power. This is because the frictional force always balances the applied force.
Unbalanced force: A force is said to be unbalanced when the net force applied on a body is greater than zero and there is an acceleration. This signifies that the object's velocity is changing.
For example, two persons applying constant force from opposite sides pull a box placed on a smooth surface. Now, the individual with higher power (who uses more force) will drag the box to his side with more speed (non-uniform velocity). As a result, the forces are imbalanced.
Hence, the given statement is true.
