In the Awadh movement, peasants and locals were angry at landlords and talukdars. They protested because grains used to be stored by landlords and talukdars and were not made available to the peasants and locals of Awadh. And later, it was sold at a high price. Moreover, landlords and talukdars did not pay the peasants and workers and forced them to do begars. Thus the frustrated peasants captured the hoards of grain, and the landlords' houses were razed to the ground. Revolutionaries seized the markets due to this grave condition.
