Concept- The thermos flask is made out of a container with layered walls and a vacuum in between them. The vacuum serves to avoid the conduction and convection heat transfer that may soon turn the contents of the thermos flask chilly.
Through conduction, convection, and radiation, heat may move from one plane to another. When two surfaces with differing surface temperatures come in touch with one another, conduction occurs. Convection occurs in fluids, such as liquids and gases, when heat is transmitted by the actual movement of the medium's particle from one location to another. Radiation does not need a medium to work since it transfers heat through radiative processes.
A thermos flask is used to maintain the heat of a liquid for an extended period of time. However, the mechanisms mentioned above between the environment and the thermos flasks cause the heat to be lost. The thermos flask's walls are double-layered with a vacuum in between them to thwart these processes. The heated liquid within and the cold air outside cannot transmit heat because of the vacuum. This insulation prevents the processes of conduction and convection from happening. This is how a thermos flask functions fundamentally, keeping its contents hot for a considerable amount of time.
