The Rowlatt Act granted unlimited powers to the British government to arrest and imprison suspects without trial. The arrest of Dr Saifuddin Kitchlu and Dr Satyapal were under this act, and it caused severe concern in Punjab. Therefore, a public meeting was held on April 13, 1919, in Jallianwala Bagh. Thousands of people, including women and children, gathered at this meeting. Unfortunately, there was heavy indiscriminate firing by British soldiers on the orders of General Dyer. Thus, more than 1600 people were killed in this massacre. However, this tragic incident inspired people to fight for freedom.
