Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
Coastal regions of India are affected by tropical cyclones. The strong violent winds accompanied by torrential rainfall originating over the tropical oceans are termed tropical cyclones. The winds centred on a low-pressure area are affected by the Coriolis force, which decides the direction of wind movements. The wind speed depends on the centre of the air circulation and occurs during late summers. These cyclones originate in the Indian Ocean, located to the south of the Indian subcontinent, and blow over the coastal regions. The heavy rainfall affects the eastern coastal states like Odisha, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh. Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu on the southern coast are also affected by tropical cyclones.
