Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
The Leeward side of a mountain is the side opposite the windward side. The windward side receives moisture-laden winds and experiences orographic rainfall. As the winds reach the leeward side, they will have hardly any moisture to cause rainfall. Thus, the leeward side receives little rainfall due to its location. The winds reaching the windward side are moist, while the winds descending towards the leeward side are dry. Therefore the leeward side of the mountains is generally drier. The northwest Himalayas and the leeward side of the Western Ghats receive little rainfall, falling on the leeward side of the mountains. The lack of rainfall in these regions makes the leeward side drier as compared to the rest of the mountain.
