Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
The Rainshadow region refers to a piece of dry land owing to the mountain ranges blocking the rainfall and plant growth in the region. The leeward side of the western Ghats is the best example of a rain shadow region. The Western Ghats is one of the regions receiving maximum rainfall from the southwest monsoons. However, the moisture-bearing winds strike the windward side of the mountains and cause heavy rainfall while moving up. Once it reaches the top of the mountain, most of its moisture content gets depleted, leading to little or no rainfall on the opposite side of the mountain. The Thar Desert is another example where the Aravallis lie parallel to the monsoon winds.
