It also ensured and enforced effluent treatment of industrial waste. The action plan positively executed sixty-nine schemes. In areas of bad erosion trees have been planted. The pollution level of major industrial cities like Varanasi, Kanpur and Patna, where the river flows, has been reduced by interception and diversion.
