Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
Running in a west-east direction from the Indus to the Brahmaputra, the Himalayas are the geologically young and structurally folded mountains stretching over the northern borders of India and covering a distance of about 2,400 km. The loftiest and one of the most rugged mountain barriers of the world are represented by the Himalayas. The northernmost range, prominent as the Great or Inner Himalayas or the Himadri, has peaks with an average height of 6,000 metres. The Himachal or Lesser Himalayas, lying to the south of the Himadri, has an average altitude that varies from 3,700 and 4,500 metres. The Shiwaliks, which is the outermost range of the Himalayas, have an average altitude varying between 900 and 1,100 metres. The highest peak of the world, Mt.Everest, is a part of the Himalayas.
