Detailed Solution

The above statement is correct. The Northern Plains are formed by the deposition of sediments by the Indus, Ganga, and Brahmaputra rivers and their tributaries. Since these rivers erode mountainous soil and travel long distances, they deposit very fertile alluvial soil which is replenished continuously by these rivers. For this reason, agriculture flourishes in this region. Also, several rivers ensure an adequate water supply. These factors, combined with favourable weather, make agriculture highly productive. Also, the plains are flat and suitable for settlement. The Indo-Gangetic Plain, a part of the Northern Plains, is the most densely populated region in India. The Northern Plain extends through the states Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and the union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
