Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
The joining of tributaries forms a river system into the main river. The two major groups of the Indian river systems are the Himalayan Rivers and the peninsular rivers.
The Himalayan system comprises three major rivers the Indus, the Brahmaputra, and the Ganga. These rivers also have many large tributaries. The Indus river system has its origin in Tibet, near lake Mansarovar. The Brahmaputra river system originates in Tibet, in the east direction of Mansarovar lake, adjoining the sources of the Indus and the Sutlej. The Ganga river system has headwaters known as Bhagirathi, fed by the Gangotri glacier and joined by the Alaknanda at Devprayag in Uttarakhand.
The Western Ghats form the major water divide in peninsular India, close to the western coast and running north-to-south. The Peninsular river system is formed by the major rivers: the Narmada, the Tapi, the Godavari, the Mahanadi, the Krishna, and the Kaveri. The deltas of these rivers are formed at their mouths.
