Detailed Solution

α-Amino acids are simple molecules that are made of a central C-atom which is bound to a primary amine group NH2 and to a carboxylic group COOH. In neutral conditions, because of presence of an acidic group (-COOH) and a basic group (-NH2), it exists as zwitterion because basic group accepts proton from the acidic group.
