In initial state inductor keeps its path open.

Current from the battery passes through the bulb when we close the switch. Current also passes through the inductor coil at the same time. In the area around the coil, this causes a magnetic field to be created. In the brief period when the current builds up, the magnetic field changes. A current is caused to flow through the coil by the fluctuating magnetic field. Lenz Law, however, states that this current is the opposite of the initial current sent by the battery. So, we can say a back emf across bulb is generated.
