Detailed Solution

Only certain amino acids involved in protein synthesis and not synthesized by human body but obtained through diet are called essential amino acids. These are Arginine, Histidine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenyl Alanine, Threonine, Tryptophan and  Valine. The remaining 10 are called non-essential amino acids involved in protein synthesis. There are more than 20 different types of amino acids in a cell.
