We know that “number of equivalents is equal to the ratio of weight of the compound or ion to equivalent weight.

  No . of equivalents = Weight of compoundEquivalent weight of compound

 Case 1: Consider one equivalent of chlorine.

  1 = Weight of chlorine(71 g2)  ; Since molar mass of chlorine  = 71.0g

Now,  Weight of chlorine = 1×35 g = 35 g

Case 2: Consider two equivalents of chlorine.

2= Weight of chlorine(71 g2)

 And then, Weight of chlorine = 2×35 g = 71.0g 

Case3: Consider three equivalents of chlorine.          

3 = Weight of chlorine(71 g2)

 From the above equation, Weight of chlorine = 3×35 g = 106.5g
