Detailed Solution

The molecular orbital electronic configuration of oxygen O2molecule is

Question Image

Where σ,π, represents bonding molecular orbitals and

σ*,π* represents anti bonding molecular orbitals.

So, the total number of electrons present in bonding molecular orbitals of oxygen molecule = 10.

Electronic configuration of He2 molecule is σ1s2σ*1s2

Bond order=12(Nb-Na)=2-22=0

Electronic configuration of C2molecule is

Bond order=12(Nb-Na)=8-42=2

(C = C)

Here all the molecular orbitals of C2 molecule are doubly occupied, so  C2 is diamagnetic in nature.
