Green algae mostly show haplontic life cycle. Brown algae usually show haplodiplontic and rarely diplontic life cycle. Red algae show haplodiplontic, haplobiontic and diplobiontic life cycles. Zygote is the meiocyte in algae with haplontic life cycle. Spore mother cells are meiocytes in algae with haplo-diplonitic life cycle. Gamete mother cells are meiocytes in algae with diplontic life cycle.
