Detailed Solution

CCl4 is used as a fire extinguisher, Pure CHCl3 does not give white precipitate with AgNO3 solution.

Pure chloroform does not give white precipitate with silver nitrate. That's because chloroform does not contain choride ions and it has just covalent bond, non ionizable carbon-chlorine bonds. It's insoluble in water, but even if it were soluble, the carbon-chlorine bonds would not ionize. So, no AgCl precipitate.
