Static friction is greater than sliding friction.
For two surfaces, sliding friction is slightly lesser than static friction. Because it is easier to move the object already in motion than the object at rest; in other words, if we want to push a car at rest, we need more force than to push a car already in motion.
The friction between the two surfaces is because of the interlocking of the irregularities of the two surfaces. Sliding prevents contact points from having adequate time to interlock, reducing friction properly. As a result, the surfaces interlock well when the item is at rest, increasing friction. Because of this, sliding friction is lower than static friction.
