Detailed Solution

Steroid hormones and thyroid hormones are lipid-soluble hormones. These hormones can enter the target cells through the lipid bilayer of the cell membrane and interact with intracellular receptors (cytoplasmic or nuclear receptors). They mostly regulate gene expression or chromosome function by the interaction of hormone-receptor complex with the genome. Water-soluble hormones (e.g., FSH) cannot enter their target cells and generate second messengers inside the target cells. Cyclins and kinases are involved in the regulation of cell cycle.
