The Silk Routes are a real example of vibrant pre-modern trade and cultural links between distant parts of the world. Historians have identified several well-known silk routes. However, the name indicates the importance of west-bound Chinese silk cargoes on this route. However, Chinese pottery, textiles and spices travelled the same path. In return, precious metals like gold and silver flowed from Europe to Asia. Trade and cultural exchange regularly went hand in hand. Early Christian missionaries undoubtedly travelled this route to Asia, as did early Muslim preachers several centuries later.
